Rocky Point Fishing Charters: Compare Boats, Prices, and Captains

A Rocky Point fishing charter costs about $350 per boat for a 3-hour afternoon trip, $400 to $600 for a half day, and $750 to $900 for a full day, as of October 2026. Prices are per boat, so the more guys you bring, the cheaper it gets per angler. Below we compare trip types, show the math for groups of 4, 6, and 10, and explain how we line up the boat for you at no extra charge.

Pick the Right Boat for Your Group

Rocky Point has two main kinds of fishing boats.

Sportfishing boats are bigger, covered boats with a restroom, shade, and room to move. Our partner sportfishing boat fishes up to 16 anglers, which makes it the easy pick for a crew of 6 to 10.

Pangas are open fiberglass boats with an outboard motor. They are fast, cheap, and great for 2 to 4 anglers fishing inshore, but they have no restroom and little shade. See our panga fishing guide.

Then pick a trip length:

TripTypical timeWhere you fishBest for
Afternoon3 p.m. to 6 p.m.Reefs 4 to 10 miles outArrival day, first-timers, kids
Half day8 a.m. to 2 p.m.Reefs 10 to 15 miles outMost guys' weekends
Full day8 a.m. to 5 p.m.Reefs 15 to 30 miles outBigger grouper, snapper, and sea bass

Compare Charter Prices and Trip Lengths

These are the published rates for our partner sportfishing boat. You pay the captain directly, and we add nothing.

TripPer boatPer angler with 4With 6With 10
Afternoon (3 hours)$350$88$58$35
Half day (6 hours)$600$150$100$60
Full day (9 hours)$900$225$150$90

Prices as of October 2026. Captains may add a fuel surcharge when fuel prices rise. Crew tips are extra.

Around Rocky Point, other boats run about $400 to $600 for a half day and $750 to $900 for a full day. Some operators price per person with a minimum headcount instead of per boat, so compare the total for your group, not the headline number.

Know What Is Included and What Is Not

Included on our partner charters:

  • The boat, captain, and crew
  • Rods, reels, tackle, and bait
  • Mexican fishing licenses
  • Fish cleaning and filleting at the dock

Not included:

  • Drinks and snacks (bring your own, no glass)
  • Coolers and ice for your catch
  • Crew tips, usually 15 to 20 percent in cash. See our tipping guide.

Ask These Questions Before You Book Any Captain

If you book a boat on your own, ask:

  1. Do you hold current Mexican permits? Ask to see them.
  2. Are you insured? Liability coverage matters if someone gets hurt.
  3. What safety gear is aboard? Life jackets for everyone, a working radio, and a first aid kit.
  4. What happens if the wind cancels the trip? Get the weather policy in writing.
  5. Are licenses, bait, and cleaning included? Many quotes leave one out.
  6. Is there a fuel surcharge? Ask before you pay.
  7. Can we keep our catch? Confirm how they handle bag limits and protected species.

We ask our partner captains these questions before we send anyone their way.

Let Us Line Up the Boat

Here is how it works when you stay at the lodge:

  1. You tell us your dates, crew size, and the trip you want.
  2. We confirm availability with a partner captain, usually within 12 hours.
  3. You book and pay the captain directly through the captain's link, at the captain's price.
  4. We stay your local contact if anything changes.

There is no coordination fee. We earn our living on the lodge.

Our Partner Captains

Our partner sportfishing boat runs out of Puerto Peñasco and fishes up to 16 anglers, with a covered deck, restroom, and freezer aboard. When we confirm your trip, we send the captain's name, boat, and booking link, so you know who you are fishing with before you book.

How Scheduling Around Tides and Wind Works

Rocky Point has some of the biggest tides in North America, and afternoon wind can stack up waves fast. A good day on the water starts with the right day on the calendar. When you send dates, we look at the tides and the forecast and suggest the best day of your stay to fish. Learn more in our fishing tides guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a fishing charter cost in Rocky Point?

As of October 2026, a 3-hour afternoon trip runs about $350 per boat, a half day about $400 to $600, and a full day about $750 to $900. Some boats charge per angler with a minimum group. Price depends on boat size, trip length, and group size.

What is included in a Rocky Point fishing charter?

Our partner charters include the boat, captain, rods, reels, tackle, bait, fishing licenses, and fish cleaning at the dock. Bring your own drinks and coolers, and plan cash for crew tips.

What happens if the trip is canceled for wind?

Captains cancel when wind or a port closure makes the trip unsafe. Charter payments are otherwise non-refundable, but weather and port-closure cancellations are rescheduled or refunded under the captain's policy, and we help move your trip to another day of your stay.

Do I need a fishing license on a charter?

Yes, but on our partner charters the captain handles it. If you fish on your own, read our Mexican fishing license guide.
